We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic staff nurses with an interest in ophthalmology.

Role Progression and Training

Within the progression role, we aim to develop your skills from a B5 to B6 level within 12-18 months, including completing ophthalmic nursing modules. You will carry out preoperative assessments and intravitreal injections for patients after training. Once in the progression phase, you can move to a Band 6 role at any time once all competencies are met. We provide supervision, training, and support throughout this process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preoperative assessment of patients for ophthalmic surgery, ensuring physical and emotional readiness.
  • Complete ophthalmic nursing modules and gain experience for progression to Band 6 roles.
  • Carry out intravitreal injections using sterile techniques during clinics.
  • Provide ophthalmic specialist advice and ensure high standards of care for surgical patients under local and general anesthesia.
  • Review patients postoperatively and manage other ophthalmic conditions.
  • Deputise for the department manager/deputy when unavailable.

Candidate Profile

We seek a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated nurse with excellent communication skills and a keen interest in all aspects of Band 5 and Band 6 posts.

Additional Information

Full training will be provided. The role involves working at the Eye Care Centre and Northwich Infirmary. Good slit lamp skills are required.
