Overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for you join our team as a radiation protection technician.

The department provides Radiation Protection, Medical Physics and Radiology Physics services to the MSE Trusts across Essex including Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals, and some private sites. This involves supporting departments using X-rays to achieve compliance with Radiation Safety legislation (IRR17 and IR(ME)R17) and operate with good radiation safety practice.

To provide support to the radiation protection team and the MSE in terms of a radiation protection technician.

The duties vary as the work of the department is quite varied. Experience of working with x-rays or similar very beneficial.

Radiographers are welcome to apply – but please note this is not a radiographer job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine equipment surveys on a range of patient critical X-ray and ancillary equipment requiring high precision measurements.
  • Investigate faults found, either at the survey or reported by the user, in order to inform maintenance engineers.
  • Assist in the performance of commissioning, acceptance and routine equipment surveys on complex, patient critical, X-ray equipment.
  • Analyse data gathered on radiation safety and quality assurance surveys and prepare reports with recommendations for correction or improvement.
  • In conjunction with a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), perform Critical Examinations on new installations as required.
  • Carry out routine intercomparisons/calibrations of x-ray quality assurance equipment.
  • Collaborate in the maintenance and development of procedures and work instructions related to the post-holder’s areas of work.
  • Assist in providing technical support, referring complex problems to a senior member of the scientific team, as appropriate.
  • Keep relevant scientific and technical records of work performed.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Full clean driving licence and preferably use of a car – though a trust vehicle is available.
  • Experience of working with x-rays or similar is very beneficial.
  • Radiographers are welcome to apply, but this is not a radiographer job.
