Job Summary

We are offering a Locum Respiratory Consultant an exciting opportunity to join our Respiratory team, leading and developing our service to meet the joint vision across Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSE).

As our ideal candidate you will have a special interest especially in Asthma or sleep.

Our service covers a full range of respiratory services including pulmonary function, cardiorespiratory exercise tests, pleural investigation, sleep studies and flexible bronchoscopy (which are done in the endoscopy unit) are performed.

The department has a special interest in the epidemiology of lung cancer and sleep disorder and assisted ventilation for respiratory failure is provided on the ward where the specialist respiratory nurse is based.

We also have a prevention of admission and early discharge service for COPD and a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to partake in a 1:15 rota on call for General Medicine, this will attract a Category B 1% on-call supplement.

You will be expected to promote a friendly and team based working environment – in line with our Trust Values, the teaching of primary care colleagues and junior medical staff through mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activity, undertaking managerial and budgetary responsibilities as required and mandatory involvement in annual appraisals.

Our Respiratory service has facilities and links for the development of Research work and the hospital has an active audit department to which respiratory division tends to contribute to the major national audits on the regular basis.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP(or equivalent)
  • Possession of a CCST in General & Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of the award at the time of interview) and/or inclusion on or eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in respiratory and general medicine
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty
  • Expertise in a subspecialty

Management Experience

Essential

  • Experience of audit management

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Experience of supervising junior doctors.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
