Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and execute complex optical and electrical test setups, including automated measurement systems.
- Develop effective Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies and perform advanced measurements to support product development.
- Create and implement modular characterisation protocols and test methods aligned with project requirements.
- Analyse and interpret device performance data to extract key metrics, identify trends, and determine failure modes.
- Produce clear technical reports summarising verification and characterisation results, providing recommendations for future development.
- Collaborate closely with design, process, test, and reliability engineering teams.
- Contribute to the development of test strategies for new device platforms and emerging technologies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to laboratory workflows, automation, engineering processes, and best practices.
- Assist with additional technical activities as required to support project and business objectives.
To be considered you will need the following:
- Degree in Physics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, or a related discipline (Masters or PhD preferred).
- Experience designing and operating laboratory test setups for photonic or optoelectronic device characterisation.
- Strong understanding of III-V optoelectronic device physics.
- Experience with optical characterisation techniques, including:
- Optical power measurements
- Spectral analysis
- Optical coupling and alignment
- Laser and fibre-optic instrumentation
- Proficiency in electrical characterisation methods, including:
- DC and pulsed IV measurements
- High-speed modulation testing
- RF probing techniques
- Strong data analysis and programming skills using tools such as Python, MATLAB, and database systems.
- Ability to analyse complex datasets and communicate technical findings effectively through reports and presentations.
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, cleanroom environments, or wafer-level testing.
- Experience with automated test systems and instrument control frameworks such as LabVIEW or NI TestStand.
- Experience in high-speed photonics, including GHz-range modulation, eye diagram analysis, and S-parameter measurements.
- Understanding of photonics packaging, integration, and reliability testing.
- Additional programming experience in LabVIEW, C++, or C#.
