Senior Principal Photonics Engineer – Suffolk

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the design and development of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) and advanced III-V photonic components.
• Build and nurture collaborations with academic and industry partners, identifying opportunities for breakthrough innovations.
• Set the technical direction for major projects, or take charge of key technical packages within R&D initiatives.
• Explore and analyze new applications of III-V photonic and IC technology, influencing internal technology and product strategies.
• Define and implement cutting-edge approaches for design, simulation, and characterization.
• Work closely with teams across Design, Process, Fabrication, and Test to ensure seamless project execution and technical excellence.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a visionary and experienced leader with a deep understanding of photonic technology.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years in photonics, with a strong background in academia or industry, focusing on III-V photonic device development.
• Expertise in R&D of key photonic devices, including laser diodes, modulators, detectors, amplifiers, or fiber-based technologies.
• In-depth knowledge of the optical communication and consumer photonics market, including applications in DCI, Metro, Long-haul links, WDM, wireless, and sensing.
• PhD in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of III-V optoelectronic device physics, semiconductor manufacturing processes, and epitaxy methods.
• Hands-on experience in the design and/or characterization of optoelectronic devices, including DC and RF analysis.
