The Organisation Our client is a respected UK technology trade body that represents and champions the UK's electronics and semiconductor sector. It brings together companies across the supply chain, from start-ups to global players, and works closely with government on policy and international relations. The organisation already runs a well-established manufacturing community. It is now building a dedicated chip design community, and this hire will lead it from the start. The Role For someone with a strong semiconductor background and a passion for bringing people together, this role offers the opportunity to expand your influence beyond a single organisation and play a key role in the growth of the UK chip design sector. As Director of Design & Community, you will grow and lead the UK's chip design community. You will bring companies together, represent their interests, and turn ideas into programmes, events and partnerships that make a real difference to the sector. Key Responsibilities Domain Expertise Act as the organisation's voice on chip design, speaking the language of SoC design, verification, IP, PDKs and EDA. Understand the challenges facing UK design companies and turn them into practical initiatives. Represent the design community in conversations with government and on the international stage. Making Things Happen Build the chip design community from the ground up: membership, working groups, events and programmes. Set priorities, own delivery and drive initiatives through to results with minimal direction. Lead and coordinate people and projects, including volunteers and partners outside your direct control. Business Development And Relationships Build relationships with design companies, IP vendors, EDA providers, foundries, universities and investors. Grow membership and partnerships, bringing commercial sense to sponsorship and funding decisions. Work alongside the manufacturing community lead so the organisation covers the full semiconductor value chain. About You You are a semiconductor professional with a solid technical foundation who now wants to broaden your horizons and build a personal network across the industry. Experience A solid career in the semiconductor industry, typically around 10 years. A grounding in SoC or chip design, with an understanding of verification, IP, PDKs and EDA tools. Experience in a customer- or market-facing role, such as product marketing, technical business development, applications or pre-sales. Project management experience, and ideally some team leadership. Commercial awareness, from budgets and sponsorship to how design companies make money. Attributes A self-starter who makes things happen. Genuinely curious about technology, companies and people. A confident communicator, comfortable in front of senior executives, government and conference audiences. Energetic and happy to travel regularly to meet members, partners and government. Package And Process The role offers a competitive salary, private healthcare and a company pension, with a 3-month probation period. The client is ready to hire now and aims to appoint this quarter. The interview process has three stages: An informal video conversation with the Chief Executive. A video interview with the directors. A final in-person meeting with the Chief Executive.
