A leading UK-based laser manufacturer is seeking a Semiconductor Packaging Technical Manager to join their growing team in Rugby. The company develops high-performance solid-state laser systems used in a wide range of scientific and industrial applications worldwide. This is a key leadership role at the intersection of R&D and manufacturing, offering the opportunity to take ownership of semiconductor laser diode packaging development while driving improvements in production capability and process scalability.
You will combine technical leadership with project and team management, taking responsibility for both product development and manufacturing processes. A core focus will be developing new packaging solutions and optimising production for performance, reliability, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the development of semiconductor laser diode packaging technologies
- Manage and develop a specialist engineering and technical team
- Drive improvements in manufacturing processes and production efficiency
- Support the expansion of production facilities and capabilities
- Develop and implement quality control and production traceability systems
- Provide technical support to resolve complex packaging and production issues
- Work closely with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams
- Strong experience in semiconductor packaging (ideally laser diodes, photonics, or high-power devices)
- Proven ability to improve and scale manufacturing processes
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- Solid understanding of materials, processes, and reliability considerations
