Role: Product Manager
Location: London
Salary: Negotiable
Overview
Our client is a high-growth deep-tech company operating at the cutting edge of video and data compression. Competing in a demanding global market, they are building category-defining technology and are looking for product leaders who combine technical depth with commercial instinct.
This is a hands-on Product Manager role for someone who enjoys turning complex, standards-based technology into real-world products that ship, scale, and generate revenue. You will own product strategy, roadmap, and execution across the full lifecycle, from early concept through to commercial adoption.
Role Summary
The company has created and productised several advanced video and data formats, including a next-generation MPEG standard that sits at the core of its IP portfolio, go-to-market strategy, and long-term growth.
In this role, you will be responsible for shaping how that technology is delivered, adopted, and monetised across multiple target markets. You will work closely with engineering, commercial, and leadership teams to define product direction, prioritise development, and drive successful customer and partner deployments.
You will lead product demonstrations, trials, and proof-of-concepts, working directly with partners and customers to validate use cases and influence both technical and commercial decisions. Day to day, you will translate market needs into clear requirements, guide implementation with engineering teams, and ensure high-quality delivery across proprietary software, reference integrations, and open-source ecosystems.
This is a central product ownership role, combining strategic thinking with sleeves-rolled-up execution. If you enjoy bridging standards, software, and commercial reality, this one is very much for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap and delivery of a portfolio of next-generation video compression products
- Define technical direction and development priorities in collaboration with engineering
- Build and maintain a clear, prioritised product roadmap balancing customer value, commercial impact, engineering effort, and time to market
- Support strategic engagements with key technology partners and vendors, helping drive revenue-generating commercial agreements
- Drive adoption of products within major open-source projects and industry frameworks, building strong developer and partner ecosystems
- Work closely with engineering teams on requirements definition, backlog refinement, and Agile planning
- Assess market trends, customer appetite, and IP opportunities to shape product strategy across media and entertainment, social platforms, industrial, and consumer video applications
- Ensure products are commercially structured for scalable revenue, including packaging, documentation, lifecycle management, and pricing
- Lead feature prioritisation, MVF and MMF definition, user scenarios, and user experience direction
- Partner with marketing to develop product narratives, technical messaging, and thought leadership content
- Act as the internal and external product authority, representing the product vision with customers, partners, and stakeholders
- Collaborate across Product, Sales, Marketing, R&D, Engineering, and Delivery to ensure aligned execution and strong internal knowledge sharing
- Monitor industry developments, standards evolution, and competitive landscape to keep products ahead of the curve
Experience and Background
- 5+ years experience in the professional video industry, ideally with a technology vendor or system integrator
- Proven experience in technical product management, delivering commercially successful software products
- Strong understanding of video codecs, compression technologies, or media delivery ecosystems
- Track record of working with partners to deliver measurable commercial outcomes
- Experience defining and executing product strategy in fast-moving environments
- Comfortable operating in smaller, high-growth organisations where ownership and adaptability matter
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, able to influence across technical and commercial teams
- Highly organised, pragmatic, and able to juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball
Why This Role
You will be shaping products built on globally recognised standards, influencing how advanced compression technology is adopted across the industry. The role offers genuine ownership, technical depth, and direct impact on commercial success, without the bureaucracy that usually comes with standards-driven environments.
If you want to be the person translating cutting-edge video tech into products people actually deploy, this is a very strong move.
