Job Specification: PCB Design Engineer Contract: Inside IR35, 12-month contract Location: Bristol (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
- The PCB Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of mass-production, test, and development PCBs.
- Key duties include:
- Creation and management of schematic and footprint libraries
- Generation and version control of Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Liaison with procurement and manufacturing operations teams regarding new, end-of-life, and obsolete components
- Creation of PCB manufacturing and assembly data packs
- PCB supplier liaison and management
- PCB layout for development and production designs
Experience & Requirements
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in PCB design and the following skills:
Technical Skills
- Schematic and layout component part library creation and management
- Creation of footprints suitable for multi-sourced components
- Development of in-house design constraints compatible with multiple assembly house rules
- Expertise in DFM, DFA, and DFT
- BOM creation and version control; PLM experience (e.g., Arena) is advantageous
- Export of PCB design data for signal integrity, thermal, and mechanical analysis
- Generation and management of manufacturing data packs for PCB and assembly subcontractors
- Proficiency with Mentor or Cadence design flows (schematic capture, design constraints, PCB layout)
- Knowledge of HDI stack-ups, via structures, and controlled-impedance routing
- Strong understanding of EMC-aware layout and mitigation of crosstalk and interference
Soft Skills & Working Style
- Experience working in a small team or startup environment, with involvement across the full product lifecycle—from concept to supporting manufacture and customers
- Rigorous approach ensuring first-time-right design quality
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
