About the role

Join Microchip’s Human Machine Interface Division (HMID), the global centre of excellence behind industry-leading maXTouch® capacitive sensing technology. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of touch controllers and system-level HMI solutions used across automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. You’ll work as part of a highly skilled, close-knit R&D team, while collaborating globally across silicon, firmware, and applications engineering.

This is a hands-on technical role for an experienced engineer who thrives on solving complex problems—from architecture definition through to silicon bring-up.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • You will take ownership of the Capacitive Touch Engine (CTE) design and development, working across:
    • Analog front-end (AFE) acquisition control
    • Digital signal acquisition and processing
    • Low-level firmware (assembly) for performance-critical execution
  • In collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will:
    • Define and optimise CTE acquisition sequencing and control architecture
    • Design, implement, and verify RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for sensing and signal processing
    • Develop high-performance embedded routines to control AFE acquisition and processing
    • Support silicon bring-up, debug, and feature validation
    • Investigate and resolve complex system issues across analog, digital, and firmware domains
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methodologies and system performance

Requirements/Qualifications:

Essential Experience

  • Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Physics, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
  • Strong industry experience (5+ years) in digital or mixed-signal IC design
  • Proven expertise in:
    • RTL design and verification
    • Verilog / SystemVerilog
    • Embedded C programming
  • Solid understanding of microcontroller architectures
  • Experience with modelling, scripting, or data analysis (Python, MATLAB or similar)
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience with PIC, ARM, or embedded MCU platforms
  • Exposure to functional safety or automotive standards (e.g. ISO 26262, Automotive SPICE, IEC/UL 60730)
  • Knowledge of capacitive touch sensing systems
  • Familiarity with display technologies (OLED, micro-LED, large-format touch systems)
