Job Description:
Join Microchip’s Microcontroller (MCU) Product Development Group and help shape our next generation of scalable, high‑performance MCUs. Our portfolio spans a wide range of applications - Automotive, Connectivity & Communication, Motor Control, Functional Safety, Security, Touch, and General‑Purpose - giving you the opportunity to work across diverse and impactful technologies.
You’ll be part of our Cambridge Design Centre, contributing to SoC development from initial concept through to volume production. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will influence architecture, drive execution, and guide engineering teams across the full SoC lifecycle.
What You’ll Do
As a Principal Engineer, you will take a leading role in defining, planning, and delivering complex SoC projects:
- Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Collaborate with architects during the concept phase
- Develop detailed microarchitecture specifications
- Create and manage project plans and technical execution strategies
- Lead SoC design activities from concept to production
- SoC & IP Design
- Design, integrate, and verify IP blocks
- Perform design checks, synthesis, static timing analysis, and power analysis
- Contribute to SoC‑level design and verification
- Work closely with DFT, implementation, and physical design teams
- Engineering Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement across the SoC development cycle
- Communicate progress, risks, and deliverables to stakeholders
- Mentor engineers and foster strong cross‑team collaboration
Requirements/Qualifications:
You will apply deep expertise across SoC development, including:
- Technical Skills
- SoC microcontroller architecture and design
- Bus fabrics and protocols: APB, AHB, AXI
- Low‑power design techniques
- IP development and integration
- Functional Safety principles
- Packaging technologies
- Standard peripherals and communication protocols: USB, I3C, UART, etc.
- RTL design, verification, DFT, and physical design
- Strong experience with synthesis and timing analysis
- Verification experience at IP and SoC levels (UVM, SystemVerilog)
- Scripting skills (Python)
- Experience & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of experience in digital or mixed‑signal SoC design
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive complex projects to completion
- Clear communicator, proactive, organised, and collaborative
