Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Space Launch Systems
We are searching for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support our client in the design and development of mechanical and structural components for a next-generation space launch vehicle and its ground support equipment. As a senior engineer, you will have significant responsibility for the technical delivery of workstreams, providing mentorship to junior engineers and playing a key role in technical decision-making.
Responsibilities –
- Design structural and mechanical components and assemblies for both the launch vehicle and supporting ground equipment, including detailed designs for everything from bolts and fasteners to primary and secondary flight structures.
- Provide hands-on engineering support in prototype development and testing.
- Manage multiple tasks and work packages in parallel with changing priorities.
- Support analysis and manufacturing teams throughout the product lifecycle, guiding products through an iterative design process.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering fields.
- Proven experience spanning the entire development lifecycle, including requirements capture, concept, detailed design, design for manufacturing (DFM), production, and verification.
- Proficient in CAD tools (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, NX) and in producing technical and production drawings following relevant standards.
Preferred Skills
- 6+ years in engineering design, ideally focused on high-performance or flight-critical components.
- Comprehensive experience across the full lifecycle of mechanical engineering projects.
- Working knowledge of aerospace and industrial engineering materials and their properties.
- Proficient in GD&T, with a strong understanding of composite materials and associated manufacturing processes.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of kinematics, material selection, and coatings for space applications.
- Familiarity with spacecraft structural loads, cryogenic fluids, and industry standards (e.g., MIL-HDBK, ECSS).
- Experience with structural sizing approaches, mechanical testing, and FEA.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including failure analysis and root cause investigation.
