Summary
A great opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our growing Navigation team, supporting varied project and product development work within Position, Navigation and Timing technologies, services, and solutions.
Objective
To successfully deliver products and engineering projects in navigation, alternative PNT, GNSS and other satellite systems and applications, whilst supporting bid and tender work.
Responsibilities / Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Work within a development team as a senior systems engineering subject matter expert to pull-through new complex research concepts and ideas into products following a systems engineering approach
- Lead the development of Systems Engineering products and systems for the efficient delivery of Navigation products, services, and projects
- Interface closely with internal and external clients / stakeholders to capture and elicit their requirements, while addressing and resolving any issues
- Develop complex systems that require knowledge of schematic design, product design, architectural models, and prototype testing
- Perform a verification, validation, and testing function for resilient, high accuracy and high integrity algorithms, solutions, applications, and services in a multi-disciplinary technical team
- Work on bids and projects in the field of positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT)
- Develop Navigation Products
- Carry out research, development, and studies for PNT technologies, concepts, algorithms, solutions, hardware, software, applications, and services
- Lead and contribute to broad engineering team activities, including documentation writing, trial and testing campaigns and review meetings.
- Consider both upstream and downstream work activities
- Carry out assigned technical working mainly autonomously
- Be a self-starter who can work autonomously and as part of a team
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
- BSc or higher degree in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, or related discipline (2:1 minimum)
- Deep knowledge and experience in Systems Engineering in line with the responsibilities above and in one, and preferably more, of the following subjects:
- GNSS systems particularly in the user segments
- PNT augmentation and alternative (to GNSS) systems, services, and data products, e.g. SBAS, IGS or commercial correction services
- Algorithms for advanced PNT techniques, including integrated / hybrid positioning techniques
- GNSS vulnerabilities and resilient PNT technologies
- High-accuracy and high-integrity PNT algorithms
- GNSS receiver technologies, and signal processing algorithms design and development
- Techniques for the provision of PNT system accuracy, integrity, continuity, and availability requirements
- PNT products, and/or services, design, and development
Essential Skills
- Deep systems engineering knowledge and experience
- Computer-based algorithm design and simulation (e.g. in MATLAB environment)
- Experience in successful project delivery
- Product management
- Technical/bid writing, and/or document production
- Knowledge and experience in engineering processes
Desirable Skills
- Programming/scripting skills - C / C++, Python, and software development experience
- Experience in bid writing, including multi-company bids either as Prime or Subcontractor
- Familiar with major institutions e.g. UK Space Agency / MoD / ESA
- Knowledge in electronics and hardware
