Business Development Manager – New Space sector
Location: Oxfordshire, UK (Hybrid)
We are seeking a motivated Business Development Manager to join our client in Oxfordshire. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to addressing critical challenges in the space industry while working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
The Role:
You will report to the Head of Business Development and Product Strategy, playing a crucial role in developing bids, securing funding, and supporting commercial sales efforts. This position offers opportunities to grow your expertise in end-to-end bid delivery while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. It’s an ideal role for someone with a background in bid management within the spacecraft or complex engineering sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Bid Capture Management: Engage with customers throughout the bid process, from initial discussions to negotiations.
- Bid Capture Management: Manage and coordinate complete bids or specific components, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions.
- Bid Capture Management: Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, finance, and business analysis, to create competitive proposals.
- Bid Capture Management: Oversee bid execution, conduct reviews (e.g., bid/no-bid or win-theme analysis), and manage bid finances.
- Bid Capture Management: Contribute to evolving customer and competitor analysis to inform strategy.
- Sales Support: Develop and maintain bid documentation and commercial artefacts.
- Sales Support: Support the sales team with pipeline management and proposal preparation.
Essential Skills
- 2-4 years of experience in bid management, preferably in the space industry, with exposure to the full lifecycle of commercial space bids.
- Proficiency in producing technical, commercial, and financial bid volumes.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated, organized, and proactive, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- A solid understanding of the space industry and ecosystem, coupled with a passion for space exploration.
Desirable Skills
- Postgraduate degree (preferably in engineering).
- Experience in areas such as in-orbit servicing, active debris removal, or space situational awareness.
- Knowledge of the UKSA or ESA bidding process.
- Strong commercial awareness and familiarity with satellite business development or sales.
