MIC Global is a pioneer in the embedded insurance space, protecting millions of lives across 40+ countries. Micology is the technology powerhouse behind this mission, home to our proprietary Intellectual Property and our flagship platform, Leap. Leap is a high-performance, AI-driven engine that enables our partners to embed insurance seamlessly into their digital ecosystems.
This is a high-visibility role focused purely on the Micology platform and our Leap clients. You will be the direct technical point of contact for our customers, ensuring their Leap installations are high-performing, scalable, secure, and resilient. You are not just a "back-room" administrator; you are a proactive technical lead who manages the client relationship from a data and infrastructure perspective, overseeing everything from initial deployment to ongoing optimisation.
MIC Global is seeking a hybrid SQL DBA and Application Support Specialist to join our technical team. This is a critical role responsible for the health, performance, and security of our SQL databases, while providing high-level technical support for our Azure-hosted .NET application stack. You will act as the primary guardian of our data environments, ensuring our insurance platforms remain scalable and resilient. While you are not expected to write code, you must have the technical fluency to navigate a .NET environment to identify and resolve infrastructure or database-related bottlenecks.
You are a technical specialist who is restless in a "maintenance-only" environment. You want to be somewhere where your work directly shapes the company’s trajectory. You are:
- Self-Driven: You don't wait for a ticket to fix a slow query; you proactively monitor the environment and resolve bottlenecks before they impact the customer.
- A Technical Problem Solver: You have a high bar for system performance and "genuine service quality." You understand that in a business built on trust, system uptime is the product.
- Excited by AI & Automation: You aren't interested in manual, repetitive tasks. You want to use automation and intelligent tooling to make our data layer and Azure infrastructure as efficient as possible.
- A Finisher: You move fast and make decisions, but you have the discipline to ensure our SQL environments are SOC 2 compliant and resilient.
Key Responsibilities
- Client-Side Technical Lead: Act as the direct primary contact for Leap clients regarding database health and application performance.
- Deployment & CI/CD Support: Manage and troubleshoot automated deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps.
- Client Installations: Serve as the technical lead for client-side installations, ensuring a smooth transition and high-standard integration.
- Core DBA Management: Full ownership of SQL Server environments, including performance tuning, indexing, backups, and security patching to ensure 100% platform uptime.
- Infrastructure Management: Monitor and maintain the Azure resources (App Services, Azure SQL, Functions) that power the Leap platform.
- Operational Excellence: Identify bottlenecks in the Leap data layer and implement automated maintenance routines to ensure the platform scales with client growth.
Technical Skillset & Experience
- Database Expert: Extensive experience as a SQL Database Administrator (T-SQL, SSMS, Performance Tuning, and Optimization).
- Azure & DevOps: Practical experience with Azure Cloud and Azure DevOps. (Azure DevOps certification is a significant plus).
- Scripting: Strong scripting experience (PowerShell, T-SQL, etc.) to automate deployments and maintenance.
- Application Fluency: Ability to support a .NET tech stack from an infrastructure perspective (identifying errors without the requirement to write code).
- Customer Facing: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues to client stakeholders.
Work Environment & Benefits
- Remote First: This is a 100% remote role. MIC Global has no physical UK offices, offering you complete flexibility in your work environment.
- Working Hours: While primarily UK business hours, this role supports a global platform. You should expect occasional out-of-hours work to support client needs across different time zones.
- Compensation for Out-of-Hours: Any out-of-hours work will be compensated through flexible working hours or an additional day off in lieu, ensuring we set the right expectations for work-life balance from day one.
