Here at the Mick George Group we are currently recruiting a Cost & Project Accountant to join the Finance department.
Location: Mick George Head Office - Huntingdon
Working Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm
Pay: £30,000 - £50,000. Dependent on experience.

Role Purpose:
To provide financial oversight and support for projects and operational activities, with a strong focus on cost control, process improvement, and business transformation. The Cost/Project Accountant will work closely with both finance and non-finance stakeholders to drive efficiency, manage stock and inventory, and ensure accurate reporting across project lifecycles.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate and timely cost reporting and project accounting across multiple initiatives.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for operational and transformation projects.
- Lead and contribute to process improvement and business transformation initiatives.
- Partner with operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial performance.
- Manage and reconcile stock and inventory, ensuring accurate valuation and reporting.
- Provide financial insight and challenge to non-financial stakeholders across departments.
- Monitor project spend against budget and provide variance analysis with commentary.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to project and cost accounting.
- Support ERP and reporting system enhancements to improve data accuracy and usability.
- Participate in weekly meetings with relevant department directors.
- Adhoc tasks within the department as required.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, especially with non-financial stakeholders.
- Hands-on approach with a proactive mindset.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in dynamic, change-oriented environments.
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience in cost or project accounting within the manufacturing or service sector.
- Proven track record in process improvement and/or business transformation.
- Strong understanding of stock management and inventory accounting.
- Proficient in Excel and financial systems (e.g., MS-365, COINS, R2C, SAP, Oracle, Sage).
- Experience with ERP systems and project modules is advantageous.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams in transformation projects.
- Familiarity with lean principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS/UK GAAP).
- Exposure to both operational and strategic finance functions.
