Job Overview: We are currently seeking a dependable and hard‑working Groundskeeper to join our team at Island Lake Shooting Range in Brighton, MI. This is an entry‑level role, and all necessary training will be provided. It’s a great opportunity for students or individuals early in their careers who enjoy working outdoors and being part of a team. As a Groundskeeper, you’ll work under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent to ensure the outdoor facilities are clean, safe, and guest‑ready.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mowing, trimming, landscaping, and general upkeep of the property
- Load and maintain clay target machines
- Assist with routine repairs of carts, traps, tools, and other equipment
- Help maintain cleanliness of public areas, shooting ranges, and trails
- Support seasonal projects such as leaf clearing, snow removal, and irrigation upkeep
- Follow daily task lists provided by the Grounds Superintendent
- Assist with inspections to ensure safety and cleanliness
- Help prepare the facility for events, including setting up target presentations and signage
- Report issues or maintenance needs promptly to the Superintendent
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance preferred
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to operate landscaping tools and light equipment safely
- Mechanically inclined and willing to learn equipment maintenance
- Dependable, hard‑working, and detail‑oriented
- Team‑oriented with a positive, can‑do attitude
- Willingness to take direction and learn on the job
- Basic understanding of firearm safety and range procedures (training provided)
- Physically able to bend, reach, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Schedule: We have openings for both full‑time and part‑time Groundskeeper positions and are happy to accommodate a variety of schedules. Preference will be given to candidates who have weekend availability.
Compensation: Starting hourly wage ranges from $13.00–$14.50 per hour, based on experience, education, and technical proficiency.
