Elementary Educational Support Services Paraprofessional

The role of the ESS paraprofessional is to work with classroom teachers and the ESS Student Support Team to support the academic and social-emotional needs of students.

Reports to

● The Educational Support Services Director and the Student Support Team

Qualifications

  • The ability to teach and care well for students who need academic and/or social-emotional support
  • The ability to collaborate well with the ESS director, the Student Support Team, classroom teachers, and other faculty
  • The ability to work independently and seek solutions to issues as they arise
  • Teaching certification preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred

Duties

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support student needs
  • Carry out instructional plans as directed by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the Student Support Team
  • Push into classrooms or pull out individuals or small groups of students to reteach, tutor, and provide other academic support as directed by classroom teachers
  • Modify lessons as needed to support students’ academic needs
  • Monitor and document student progress as directed by classroom teacher and/or Student Support Team
  • Communicate student observations and accomplishments with classroom teacher
  • Communicate encouragement with students about their progress
  • Participate with classroom teacher as needed in communicating with parents about student progress
  • Participate in grade level and Student Support Team meetings when scheduled
  • Participate in staff professional development as appropriate
