Special Education Instructional Coach is a temporary, hourly position for up to 40 hours for the school year. This role may appeal to retired special education teachers who are passionate about improving student achievement through teacher-created goals.

Responsibilities

  • The Instructional Coach is responsible for improving the academic experience and outcomes of K-14 students who receive special education services.
  • The Instructional Coach works directly with special education teachers and support staff to enhance instructional practices.
  • Develops and assists with an individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Trains, coaches, and supports teachers and support staff in identifying, developing, and implementing curriculum, assessment, and instructional strategies designed to improve learning for students with disabilities.
  • Trains and develops special education teachers on special education protocols in alignment with state and local policies.
  • Observes, mentors, coaches, and provides feedback to special education teachers on instructional best practices, accommodations, modifications, and the creation of specially designed instruction for students with IEPs.
  • Creates and implements coaching plans and/or development plans for each teacher and paraprofessional on caseload.
  • Supports special education teachers with data collection including progress monitoring, service logs, and surveys for the completion of IEPs.
  • Executes model lessons for teachers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certification with a special education endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least five years of special education experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and build effective working relationships, collaborating with others to achieve objectives.
  • Time management skills to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
