Position
Associate – Employment Law
Location: Exeter or Cheltenham office.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal counsel on a wide range of employment law issues, including employment status, contracts, handbooks, redundancy and discrimination.
- Deliver clear, concise HR support to clients and in‑house HR teams, covering grievances, performance issues, sickness absence management, and disciplinaries.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support client cases and provide strategic advice.
- Manage Employment Tribunal claims from ACAS Early Conciliations through to Appeal Hearings and Cost Applications.
- Represent clients in Employment Tribunals, mediations and other dispute resolution proceedings.
- Collaborate with colleagues across all teams within the firm to deliver comprehensive legal solutions, including supporting corporate deals and working with the Commercial and Commercial Dispute Resolution teams.
- Stay up to date with changes in employment law, draft related articles and proactively advise clients on impacts to their businesses.
- Work with Professional Support Lawyers and Paralegals to update and refine policies, contracts and templates.
- Engage in business development projects and strategies, attend client events, and foster relationships with clients and partner organisations.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or Scotland.
- 1‑5 years post‑qualification experience in employment law.
- In‑depth knowledge of UK employment legislation and case law.
- Proven track record of handling complex employment law matters, including settlement negotiations and Employment Tribunal cases.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and advocacy skills.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage a diverse caseload with strict deadlines.
- Prepared to develop ideas for improving transactional processes and client service.
- Motivated to contribute to the team’s growth and business development initiatives.
