What sort of work? Our highly experienced Transactional Real Estate (TRE) group is looking for an Associate to join our highly regarded Residential Development team. In this role you will support the team in delivering first-class service to clients. This will include:
- Residential development acquisitions and disposals, acting for developers and landowners
- Disposals and acquisitions of affordable housing, acting for developers and registered providers
- Provision of support in relation to strategic land matters including promotion agreements and options in respect of land with longer term development potential
- A wide range of matters linked to development work including overage arrangements, title due diligence, conditional contracts, easements, and tenancies.

Specifically, our Residential Development team is particularly strong. We act for a wide range of regional and national house builders, residential developers and landowners, including providers of affordable housing, student accommodation and retirement housing. In relation to strategic land development, the team has an in-depth knowledge of promotion agreements and other legal structures and issues relating to the delivery of strategic land to development stage. We offer a full service to developers, promoters and landowners, including complex planning and tax issues. Our team is accustomed to delivering projects in the most commercially effective and tax-efficient way. The team’s experience and proactive approach is valued by our clients, and our commitment and specialist understanding of this sector is widely recognised.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for somebody who will understand our values and thrive in our culture. An ambitious and commercially astute lawyer, you will have gained broad experience in residential development work and be looking to develop your expertise further and help to grow the firm's offering in this area. The role can be based at either our Bristol, Cheltenham or Exeter office (on a hybrid basis) and the ideal candidate will have:
- 2-4+ PQE in a commercial real estate practice, ideally with a focus on experience gained in the residential development sector or a clear interest to develop experience in that sector.
- A genuine interest in promoting business development opportunities and an ability to build effective and positive relationships with clients and colleagues that embrace the importance of trust and collaboration.
