Michelmersh are looking to recruit enthusiastic and committed individuals to work at their brick manufacturing plant in Romsey, Hampshire. This position is for a Machine Operator. This role is physically demanding and therefore a degree of strength and fitness is required. The position is full time and involves working shifts.

Job Specification:

  • Daily operation of the brick making machine.
  • Meet budgeted annual production figures.
  • Close liaison with Supervisors and Management regarding production schedules to satisfy production needs.
  • Working as a team to maintain a clean, safe working environment following 5s cleaning standards.
  • Manual handling of brick products where required.
  • Adherence to all Company Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Use of correct PPE/RPE at all times.
  • Ensure good communication between shifts to enable smooth handovers.
  • Complete daily downtime log and work closely with the maintenance team to reduce downtime and maximise efficiency.
  • Provide shift cover for holidays and illness where required.

Previous Experience & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
  • Previous training in Health and Safety is desirable but not essential, as full training in the role and its responsibilities will be provided.
  • B1 Forklift Truck licence is desirable but not essential; this can be provided for the successful candidate.
  • Loading shovel licence is desirable but not essential; this can be provided for the successful candidate.
  • Mini digger / Excavator license desirable but not essential for this role.
  • Drivers licence beneficial but not essential.

The successful applicant will be working primarily in our brick manufacturing facility on our brick making machine. This involves Forklift driving to unload skips, operating the Loading Shovel to fill hoppers on the evening shift and operating the Clay Preparation and Brick Making Machines. Full training will be provided before you are asked to operate the machinery on your own. You will also be required to provide cover for the blending team where necessary. An awareness of health and safety must always be demonstrated in the workplace.

  • Permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week).
  • Weekly rotating shift pattern 06:00-14:00 / 14:00-22:00, however, a flexibility to work other shift patterns to provide cover is essential.
  • Starting rate of pay will be £13.07 (pay increase upon successful completion of your Operator training and probation period).
