Motor Vehicle Workshop Assistant
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum
Location: Thetford or King's Lynn, Norfolk
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week

Michelle Denny Recruitment is advertising this opportunity on behalf of Open Road Norfolk Trust, which provides practical vocational training for young people who may not thrive in a traditional classroom.
We're looking for a Workshop Assistant to support the Motor Vehicle Tutors and help young people develop practical mechanical skills, confidence and a better understanding of the workplace.
This isn't a teaching position, and you won't need a teaching qualification. It's a practical, hands-on role where your workshop experience and willingness to support others will really count.
The role
- Prepare tools, vehicles and equipment for training sessions.
- Help learners with practical motor vehicle activities.
- Assist with servicing, inspections and workshop demonstrations.
- Maintain a safe, tidy and organised workshop.
- Encourage young people to participate, learn and build confidence.
What you'll need
- Experience in a motor vehicle workshop or similar practical environment.
- Confidence using hand tools and workshop equipment safely.
- Good practical and mechanical skills.
- A patient, positive approach to working with young people.
- Good communication skills and a reliable attitude.
- Ideally GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or equivalent.
A Level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification would be an advantage, although it's not essential. Previous experience working with young people would also be useful.
Salary and benefits
- £28,000 - £30,000 per annum.
- Full-time, 37 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, within 8.30am - 4.30pm operating hours.
- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays (annual leave taken during school holidays).

The position may be based in Thetford or King's Lynn, with occasional travel between Open Road's training centres.
