As a Machining Centre Operative, you will report to the Shift Leader. The Machining Centre Operative plays a key role in delivering high-quality components through the operation of large CNC machine tools. Working within a fast-paced machine shop environment, the role involves producing precision-engineered parts to strict specifications, ensuring all work meets required quality standards and production targets. The postholder will be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings, setting and operating machinery, and making program adjustments where required. Collaboration is essential, with regular interaction across production control, engineering, maintenance and quality teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations. What you\'ll be doing
- Operating CNC machines and work centres safely and efficiently to meet production requirements.
- Manufacturing components in line with engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Editing and modifying CNC programs as required to support production needs.
- Carrying out inspections using a wide range of measuring equipment and recording results accurately.
- Ensuring correct drawings, tools and calibrated inspection equipment are used at all times.
- Accurately recording all work activity on shop floor systems.
- Working closely with production, engineering, maintenance and quality teams to resolve issues and maintain workflow.
- Ensuring output is delivered in line with planned production schedules and standard hours.
- Supporting the training and development of apprentices and trainees.
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.
- Contributing to a positive team environment and supporting continuous improvement activities.
Who we\'re looking for
The ideal candidate will be a time-served machinist with strong experience in CNC milling and turning, including exposure to mill/turn and 5-axis machining. They will have a solid understanding of engineering drawings and be confident in carrying out self-inspection using a variety of measuring equipment. A recognised engineering qualification, such as an NVQ or apprenticeship, is essential. The successful individual will demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. They will be highly motivated, flexible in their approach and bring a proactive, can-do attitude to their work, with a clear commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
