Having been established for almost 50 years now, I am currently working with a well renowned engineering and building services contractor. My client typically specialise in flagship laboratories and life sciences facilities, major healthcare, education, and commercial schemes. They have built their reputation on technical excellence, collaborative delivery, and a people-first culture.

With a turnover exceeding £100m and a growing London delivery hub, they partner with tier-one contractors and blue-chip clients to deliver MEP projects ranging from £10m–£50m+. Their integrated model spans Mechanical & Electrical, Facilities Management, and Energy Solutions, underpinned by sustainability, digital innovation, and a relentless focus on quality.

The Opportunity:

To lead the subcontractor and supply chain function for large-scale Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects across the London area. The role will focus on securing and managing high-performing subcontractors, particularly for mechanical and electrical labour packages, ensuring timely delivery, cost control, and compliance with project and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Subcontractor Package Management
  • Take ownership of key subcontract packages including:
  • Mechanical Labour
  • Electrical Labour
  • Ductwork Installation
  • Containment & Cable Installation
  • BMS & Controls
  • Fire Alarm & Security Systems
  • Plant Movement & Logistics
  • Ensure clear scopes of work, deliverables, and KPIs are defined and agreed for each package.
  • Manage subcontractor performance on-site and off-site, ensuring alignment with programme and quality standards.
  • Project Focus
    • Coordinate supply chain activities across multiple concurrent projects in the London area.
    • Understand and navigate London-specific logistics, labour market dynamics, and regulatory requirements.
    • Build strong relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers to ensure responsiveness and reliability.
  • Procurement & Commercial Oversight
    • Lead procurement planning for labour and materials in collaboration with project teams.
    • Negotiate subcontractor agreements with a focus on quality, value, risk mitigation, and delivery assurance.
    • Monitor cost performance and support commercial teams with forecasting and reporting.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure subcontractors meet all statutory and company requirements including:
    • CSCS / ECS / JIB certifications
    • Health & Safety compliance
    • Right to work and labour verification
  • Set up and implement processes for feedback from site teams on subcontractor compliance.
