The role involves leading the electrical design and delivery of complex building services projects across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and mixed‑use developments. You will take technical ownership of projects, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with clients and the wider design team to deliver high‑quality, compliant, and sustainable solutions.

Electrical Design & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the electrical design of building services systems including LV power distribution, lighting and emergency lighting, small power, earthing and bonding, fire alarm, data/telecoms, and security systems.
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
  • Undertake and review load assessments, fault level calculations, and cable sizing.
  • Provide technical input from concept through detailed design and construction (RIBA Stages 2-6).
  • Ensure technical quality and consistency across project deliverables.

Project Delivery & Client Interface

  • Act as the lead electrical engineer on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, public health, structural, and architectural teams.
  • Attend and lead design meetings, workshops, and site inspections.
  • Manage and respond to technical queries, RFIs, and contractor proposals.
  • Support commissioning, testing, snagging, and handover processes.

Compliance, Standards & Sustainability

  • Ensure all designs comply with BS 7671, Building Regulations, British Standards, and CIBSE guidance.
  • Interpret and apply statutory requirements and client standards.
  • Drive energy‑efficient, low‑carbon, and sustainable design solutions.
  • Support compliance with Part L and broader sustainability strategies.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and support intermediate and junior engineers.
  • Review and approve technical work produced by others.
  • Contribute to staff development, training, and CPD activities.
  • Support resource planning and project programming where required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Typically 6-10+ years' experience within an MEP or building services consultancy.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services systems.
  • Proven experience leading projects and managing design delivery.
  • In‑depth knowledge of UK regulations, standards, and best practice.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD / Revit and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
