With a legacy spanning over 50 years, our client began as a leading supplier of air conditioning before evolving into a multi-disciplined, design-and-build mechanical services specialist. Today, they deliver air conditioning, ventilation and heating solutions across commercial and high‑end residential projects in London.

Operating within the Commercial, Hotel, Education and High‑End Residential sectors, they manage mechanical installations ranging from £50,000 to £1.5M. The company provides a fully in‑house design and build service, now proudly achieving an annual turnover of approximately £25M continuing to grow steadily and organically.

Position: Key Accounts Manager – Preconstruction

The Key Accounts Manager will act as a central figure in client engagement during the preconstruction phase, ensuring that clients experience clarity, confidence and continuity from initial enquiry through to tender submission and project handover to delivery teams. This role bridges technical understanding with relationship building finesse, making it ideal for someone with a background in Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Estimating or Engineering who wants to step into a more client facing position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison for key clients during all preconstruction activity, maintaining strong ongoing relationships.
  • Lead client meetings, clarifying project requirements, timelines, risks and deliverables.
  • Support tender preparation by gathering key information, coordinating technical input and ensuring submission deadlines are met.
  • Translate complex mechanical services concepts into clear, client‑friendly communication.
  • Track and manage multiple opportunities simultaneously, ensuring clients remain informed and supported throughout each stage.
  • Identify opportunities for added value, upsell or service differentiation.
  • Maintain CRM and internal reporting systems to reflect client interactions, pipeline activity and project status updates.
  • Build a deep understanding of the business\’s design and build offering to confidently represent solutions to clients.
  • Develop long term relationships with new and existing clients, supporting the company\’s growth ambitions.

Skills & Experience/Essential

  • Background in Construction or Mechanical Services particularly in Project Management, Estimating, QS, or Engineering.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services (AC, ventilation, heating).
  • Confident communicator, able to lead discussions with clients at all levels.
  • Comfortable interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solution‑focused mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team.
