Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Maintenance Officer/Gardener in Consett, DH8 6AH. 30 hours per week. Salary £12.22 per hour. Permanent contract.
The role involves maintaining the Care Centre building, its services and grounds to ensure a safe and efficient operation. You will be on call for emergencies as required.
Responsibilities- Carry out day to day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds.
- Ensure ALL legal documentation is completed on time.
- Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment and other potential hazards to the Home Manager.
- Maintain the Care Centre exterior and grounds, including sheds, outbuildings and waste storage areas.
- Clear snow and grit driveways, paths and areas accessible to Clients, Visitors or Staff.
- Maintain external gardens, flower beds and hanging baskets to a high standard; clean external signs and lighting.
- Test and log fire alarm results weekly; check call points, exits and emergency lighting as per procedures.
- Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs/diffusers as needed.
- Test portable appliances and water temperatures as specified in Company procedures.
- Maintain a "Maintenance Book" for recording defects and repairs; assist with deliveries and monitor goods; liaise with Home Manager regarding maintenance work.
- Participate in staff and client meetings as required; attend mandatory training.
- Maintain professional knowledge and competence; promote safe working practices in the Care Centre.
- General maintenance knowledge/experience (e.g., minor electrical, plumbing, joinery).
- Good communication skills; confident team player.
- Clean driving licence and access to a car or similar vehicle.
- Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/EHO issues.
- Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable).
- Desirable: understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot/cold water systems; knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
