Role Summary
Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Maintenance Officer in Consett. Your primary aim is to ensure our care home is well maintained. You will carry out day to day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds to maintain a safe and efficient functional order. You will also be required to be on call for emergencies only.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
- General maintenance knowledge / experience e.g. minor electrical, plumbing, joinery work etc.
- Good communication skills
- Confident team player
- Clean driving licence
- Use of a car or similar vehicle
- willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety / EHO issues
- Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)

- Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure ALL Legal documentation is completed on time.
- Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Home Manager.
- Maintain the Care Centre's exterior: keep sheds, outbuildings, waste storage areas clean and tidy.
- Clear snow and grit the drive, paths and areas accessed by Clients, Visitors or Staff Members.
- Maintain all external gardens, flower beds and hanging baskets to a high standard.
- Clean all signs / lighting outside the Care Centre.
- Carry out patching or touching up of decoration as required.
- Test fire alarm system weekly; check call points, fire exits, door retaining devices, emergency lights as specified.
- Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs/diffusers.
- Test portable appliances as specified.
- Record water temperatures as specified.
- Maintain a "Maintenance Book" and use it to effect repairs/replacements daily.
- Assist/supervise deliveries; monitor goods closely.
- Liaise with Home Manager or delegated Staff Member regarding maintenance work.
- Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required.
- Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
- Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
- Store paints and varnishes per manufacturers' instructions; ensure adequate ventilation.
- Report immediately any illness of an infectious nature or accident involving a Client, colleague, self or another.
- Ensure implementation of the Care Centre's Health and Safety policy and emergency and fire procedures.
- Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.
