Site Manager (Recycling / Waste Management / Fuel Production)
Site Management role based in Cheshire, working for a well‑established fuel production and waste management company.
Overview
This role leads the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a fuel production and waste management site. It requires full responsibility for health & safety, environmental compliance, operational performance, budgets, feedstock acceptance, stock management, and fuel production.
Responsibilities
- Lead the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the site.
- Deliver daily biomass fuel production to meet required quality, volume and customer demand.
- Champion Health, Safety, and Environmental standards across all site operations.
- Use KPIs, data and reporting to drive performance across safety, production, quality and cost.
- Own fuel quality control, ensuring consistent standards and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with contracts, logistics and customers to coordinate deliveries and resolve day‑to‑day operational issues.
- Build and manage strong relationships with key customers and plant operators at a senior level.
- Identify and manage operational and contractual risks, escalating issues where required.
- Lead, develop and performance‑manage the operations team.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to maximise plant availability and minimise downtime.
- Control budgets, optimise resources and deliver cost‑effective operations.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including waste reduction and efficiency gains.
Qualifications
- Background in recycling, waste management or fuel production at site manager level.
- WAMITAB/COTC certificate preferred; client will assist if lacking.
- IOSH or above, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum Level 5 in leadership apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- Established experience in operations management in waste management, fuel production or manufacturing.
- Proven track record of managing production facilities and teams in manufacturing, waste management or fuel production.
- Engineering background or work in an engineering environment preferred.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to manage shift change‑overs effectively.
- Ability to engage with customers and external stakeholders on operational performance matters.
- Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Proficiency in operational management software and tools.
- Strong analytical and financial management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with key stakeholders and plan maintenance schedules.
Salary
£55,000 to £65,000 plus benefits.
