As a Senior Hearings Officer - Committee Secretary, you'll oversee the smooth running of hearings within the public sector, ensuring proper procedures are followed. This temporary role requires strong organisational skills to support committees effectively and keep everything on track.
Sitting as Committee Secretary in hearings, facilitating proceedings and providing support, process advice and guidance to the Chair, Committee Members, Legal Adviser, parties and witnesses. Summarising cases and preparing draft determinations, accurately reflecting the Committee's decisions and the reasons for those decisions. Resolving issues that may arise during hearings and ensuring cases remain on track and progress efficiently. Ensuring administrative procedures are carried out in accordance with relevant rules, regulations and established policies. Processing payments and fees due to the Chair and Committee Members in relation to hearings. Reviewing legal information and evaluating case bundles prior to the commencement of cases.
A successful Senior Hearings Officer - Committee Secretary should have:
- In-depth knowledge of adjudicatory or regulatory fitness to practise hearings.
- Experience working as a Committee Clerk/Panel Secretary, producing full and detailed decisions rather than simply recording meeting minutes.
- Proficiency in drafting determinations that accurately reflect the Committee's reasoning and discussions.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a professional presence in a formal and public tribunal setting.
- The ability to work effectively in a highly pressured public hearing environment, often within tight time constraints.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to review, analyse and manage complex documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with committee procedures, governance practices and formal decision-making processes.
- A professional and conscientious approach to handling confidential and sensitive information.
Salary: £47,862 - £55,514 (including £4,500 location allowance) pro rata
Location: London/Hybrid
Contract: Fixed term contract - up to 31 December 2026 (must be available for immediate start)
Hours: Full time (35 per week)
