We're recruiting an Electrical & Instrumentation (E/I) Engineer to lead the design, maintenance and compliance of electrical and control systems across a complex industrial operation. This role combines technical authority with project delivery, ensuring safe, reliable and regulation-compliant system performance.

Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, specification and review of electrical and instrumentation systems for new installations and modifications
  • Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting support to engineering, maintenance and operations teams
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g. BS7671, ATEX, DSEAR, IEC)
  • Act as the technical authority for E/I systems, maintaining system integrity and driving improvements
  • Manage third-party contractors, vendors and consultants across E/I project scopes
  • Lead and support safety studies including HAZOP, LOPA and SIL assessments
  • Develop and enhance maintenance strategies to support asset reliability and performance
  • Produce and review technical documentation including drawings, specifications and reports
  • Deliver capital projects from concept through to commissioning
  • Mentor and develop technicians, providing guidance and technical oversight

Profile

The successful candidate:

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) desirable
  • Strong experience working with E/I systems in a process or industrial environment (e.g. chemicals, energy, manufacturing)
  • Deep understanding of UK electrical/instrumentation standards and legislation
  • Experience with functional safety and hazardous area design/selection (CompEx advantageous)
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, automation and instrumentation networks
  • Proven experience across design, maintenance and project delivery
  • Confident working cross-functionally with operations, contractors and stakeholders
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using relevant engineering tools/software (e.g. AutoCAD, ETAP, PLC/DCS platforms)
