Seeking an experienced Interim HR Consultant to join the business on a short‑term basis, supporting employee relations activity and embedding robust HR policies, processes and governance. This is a hands‑on delivery role, suited to an HR professional who is comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, operational environment and can quickly assess what's required, stabilise ER risk and put practical, fit‑for‑purpose HR frameworks in place.

This is an opportunity to add real value over a defined period, supporting an essential, operational business in Gatwick within the Waste Industry with meaningful HR impact. You'll have the autonomy to focus on delivery, make improvements that last, and help strengthen people practices across the organisation.

The Interim HR Consultant responsibilities will include:

  • Provide day‑to‑day employee relations support, advising managers on a range of matters including absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance issues.
  • Lead and manage complex or sensitive ER cases, ensuring outcomes are fair, consistent and legally compliant.
  • Review existing HR policies, procedures and employment documentation, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Update, create and implement HR policies and processes to ensure compliance with current employment legislation and best practice.
  • Support line managers with practical guidance and coaching to build confidence and capability in managing people issues.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, record‑keeping and governance are in place across all ER activity.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to prioritise actions, manage risk and deliver tangible improvements within the contract period.

The successful Interim HR Consultant should have the following:

  • Proven experience operating as an interim HR professional, HR consultant or senior HR generalist.
  • Strong background in employee relations, including managing complex and high‑risk cases.
  • Solid, practical knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Experience reviewing and implementing HR policies, procedures and core people processes.
  • Comfortable working in operational, blue‑collar or safety‑critical environments (desirable).
  • Pragmatic, delivery‑focused and able to work autonomously with minimal handover.
  • Confident communicator with the credibility to influence managers at all levels.

The Interim HR Consultant will receive:

  • A day rate of up to £350 inside IR35 via Umbrella.
  • Hybrid working pattern of 3 days in office and 2 from home.
  • Interim contract for 3 months.
