The Multi Skilled Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment to ensure smooth operations in the Energy & Natural Resources sector. This role is based in Ince and requires technical expertise in engineering and manufacturing processes.
This biomass facility in Chester processes around 170,000 tonnes of waste wood each year, including materials diverted from landfill such as household and manufacturing offcuts. It contributes renewable electricity generation across its wider portfolio, supporting energy demand equivalent to over 100,000 homes and businesses annually. The site has been selected by the UK Government for transformation into the country's first bioenergy plant with carbon-capture integration, designed to remove approximately 217,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚ per year through connection to the regional HyNet carbon-transport and storage network. The upgrade is planned to be operational by 2029, forming part of the UK's long-term net-zero and industrial-decarbonisation strategy.
As the Multi Skilled Engineer you will be tasked with the following:
- Planned & Reactive Maintenance: Execute PPMs and responsive repairs on rotating equipment, conveyors, fans, pumps, valves, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, burners/boilers, emissions control, and balance-of-plant assets.
- Electrical & Controls: Fault-find on MCCs, motors, VSDs, instrumentation (flow/level/pressure/temperature), combustion control, and basic PLC I/O; complete isolations/LOTO and support safe energisation.
- Reliability: Use CMMS to log work, analyse failure modes, and implement condition-based and defect-elimination actions to reduce downtime and repeat faults.
- Compliance & Safety: Work to RAMS, LOTO, permit-to-work, confined space and hot-work procedures; champion housekeeping (5S) and hazard reporting.
- Outage Support: Assist in outage planning, contractor coordination, quality checks and return-to-service testing.
A successful Multi Skilled Engineer should have:
- Time-served apprenticeship (or equivalent) with multi-skilled capability (electrical and mechanical).
- Background in industrial/manufacturing.
