This is a key internal role within the firm, responsible for handling day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting for the practice itself. Working closely with the partners and admin team, you\’ll ensure the smooth running of the internal accounts and contribute to the financial health of the business.

Client Details

We are a long-established firm of Chartered Accountants based in Bolton, and we\’re looking for a reliable and detail-focused Bookkeeper / Payroll Assistant to manage the internal finances of our practice.

Description

  • Maintain up-to-date internal bookkeeping records

  • Manage practice bank reconciliations and cashflow

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts

  • Process staff payroll, including RTI submissions and pension contributions

  • Handle VAT returns and liaise with HMRC where necessary

  • Support internal budgeting and forecasting processes

  • Manage supplier payments and staff expense claims

Profile

A successful Bookkeeper / Payroll should have:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping and payroll, ideally within a professional services environment

  • Strong working knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, or similar)

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Discreet and trustworthy when handling confidential financial information

  • Organised, proactive, and able to work independently
