We are seeking a Multi Skilled Engineer - Electrical bias to join a fast-paced environment within the FMCG industry. This permanent role, based in Accrington, is ideal for someone skilled in engineering and manufacturing processes.

Description: As the Multi Skilled Engineer - Electrical Bias you will be tasked with the following:

  • Electrical Maintenance & Reliability: Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of electrical systems, ensuring equipment uptime and compliance with site schedules. Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production machinery, including motors, sensors, control panels, conveyors, ovens, mixers, and automated packaging lines. Perform electrical testing, calibration, and verification in line with regulatory and site standards. Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring electrical issues and implementing long‑term engineering solutions.
  • Mechanical Support: Provide mechanical maintenance support when required, including strip‑downs, bearing changes, gearbox work, and mechanical adjustments. Assist with breakdowns across all disciplines to minimise downtime and maintain production flow. Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems as part of multi‑skilled responsibilities.
  • Production Support & Efficiency: Respond quickly to breakdowns on high‑speed bakery or food production lines, ensuring safe and efficient resolution. Collaborate with production teams to optimise machine performance, reduce waste, and improve line efficiency. Support changeovers, line setups, and equipment adjustments to maintain product quality and throughput.
  • Compliance, Safety & Standards: Ensure all engineering work complies with food safety, hygiene, and audit requirements (e.g., BRC, HACCP, GMP). Maintain accurate engineering records, including maintenance logs, shift reports, and asset documentation. Follow safe working practices, isolation procedures, and permit‑to‑work systems at all times. Participate in risk assessments and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Projects & Continuous Improvement: Support installation, commissioning, and modification of new equipment and automation systems. Contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability‑focused engineering initiatives. Work with the engineering team to develop and implement improvements that enhance equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and process control.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with other engineers, production teams, and external contractors. Provide technical guidance to operators and apprentices when required. Communicate effectively during handovers to ensure continuity across shifts.

Profile: A successful Multi Skilled Engineer - Electrical Bias should have:

  • A background in engineering or manufacturing within fast paced industries.
  • Strong electrical skills complemented by mechanical knowledge.
  • Level 3 NVQ or equivalent.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
