Job Description
The interim HSE Specialist will work as part of a small team which supports site-level deployment the company's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management practices to ensure compliance with local legal requirements and global standards.
This individual will collaborate with managers, engineers, supervisors and shop-floor employees to identify and control health and safety hazards and adverse environmental impacts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains HSE compliance assurance processes, including self-assessments and compliance calendars, to enable compliance with applicable laws and company standards.
- Supports managers and supervisors in effective shop-floor implementation of HSE standards.
- Facilitates the deployment of employee-driven safety and environmental teams and provides technical support for team activities that promote a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace.
- Maintains and analyzes data from internal audit processes, including HSE-related GEMBA and behavior observations, to proactively identify conditions and behaviors that can lead to HSE incidents.
- Partners with assigned stakeholders to drive timely, effective closure of identified HSE-related corrective and preventive actions.
- Supports deployment and maintenance of training processes to ensure that required HSE training is defined, addresses required content and is tracked to completion.
- Provides technical support, including risk assessments and industrial hygiene sampling, to support compliance with regulatory and company standards.
- Manages data collection and reporting to support compliance with environmental permits and authorisations.
- Champions the investigation of HSE incidents and ensures that corrective and preventive actions that address root causes are effectively deployed across the site.
- Collaborates with the site's engineering and maintenance teams to ensure that inspections, testing, preventive maintenance activities associated with HSE-critical equipment and applicable high-hazard chemical processes are defined and appropriately documented.
- Verifies the accuracy of data in the company's HSE database (e. g., Entropy) and analyzes the data to identify loss trends that can contribute to injuries and illnesses, adverse environmental impacts and HSE process non-conformances.
- Partners with operations, human resources and medical teams to effectively manage return-to-work programs for work-related injuries and illnesses.
- Provides input on site-level HSE goals and budgets.
- The Successful Applicant
The successful HSE Specialist should have
- Thorough knowledge of the UK HSE regulations and other relevant safety and environmental standards. including COSHH, Machinery, Fire, Work at Height, etc.
- Proven HSE experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify safety risks.
- NEBOSH Certificate Level 3 (minimum)
- Environment awareness, including knowledge of waste management
- Strong computer skills (including web-based HSE systems)
- Experience in high-hazard chemical process safety management (with knowledge in Engineering, Maintenance, etc.) preferred.
- Project management experience to enable prioritisation and management of multiple projects to completion.
- Experience of managing high hazard aspects preferred (e. g. DSEAR, HAZOP, LOPA)
- Be available to start a new role on short notice and work on site in Derby.
- What's on Offer
- Salary up to £44,000, dependent on level of experience. Higher salaries may be considered for part time candidates 4 days a week. This role is Inside IR35.
- Fixed-term contract opportunity in Derby, with potential for longer term. 4 days on site, with one day from home.
