Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop Health, Safety & Environmental systems in line with legal, ISO, and internal standards.
  • Promote a positive HSE culture through regular shop-floor presence, engagement, and behavioural improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Prepare and review risk assessments, SOPs, COSHH documentation, and maintain chemical substance registers.
  • Support ISO14001 accreditation and help ensure all departments remain audit-ready.
  • Deliver new starter inductions and contribute to departmental training programmes, including occupational health surveillance.
  • Perform internal audits and assist with external audit preparation.
  • Control contractors and ensure safe systems of work are consistently applied.
  • Collate KPI data for HSE performance and support customer audit requirements.
  • Attend or chair HSE meetings and support cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Deputise for the Group HSE Director when required.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate:

  • Qualified to Level 6 in a Health & Safety discipline (or working towards).
  • Experienced in managing and maintaining ISO-accredited HSE systems (ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001).
  • Ideally brings Environmental Management qualifications and experience within FMCG or manufacturing.
  • Strong communicator capable of influencing at all levels, from shop-floor to senior leadership.
  • Skilled in developing training, facilitating change, and embedding a strong safety culture.
  • Confident conducting audits, risk assessments, COSHH evaluations, PUWER-related documentation, and contractor control.
  • Proactive, dynamic, solutions-focused, and able to take ownership of HSE improvement initiatives.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and able to travel between sites.
