Job Description

As the Transport Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of a fast-paced transport operation, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and best-in-class service delivery. You will lead a team of drivers and transport staff while playing a key role in shaping the future development of the department.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the transport team to ensure high performance.
  • Oversee route planning, scheduling, and delivery efficiency across a multi-drop food distribution operation.
  • Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, including Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, and O-Licence requirements.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and work closely with external service providers.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service, reduce cost, and maximise fleet utilisation.
  • Maintain effective communication with warehouse, customer service, and commercial teams.
  • Produce operational reports and performance updates for senior leadership.
  • Manage budgets, KPIs, and ensure strong cost control across the department.

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate will bring strong transport leadership experience within a fast-moving environment—ideally FMCG, food service, or multi-drop distribution.

  • Proven background as a Transport Manager or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance.
  • CPC Transport Manager qualification (essential).
  • Experience within food distribution or FMCG logistics (highly desirable).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Previous experience managing in a unionised environment (highly desired).
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
