Our exclusive client is a fantastic business who have a long established reputation of excellence in manufacturing quality. With a turnover of just under £50m, our client is highly respected, and operate from an attractive, modern site in the Medway towns. The company is known for its innovation, quality, and strong market position within the sector.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have a broad remit, supporting the Managing Director as part of the SLT as well as mentoring the next generation of finance leadership for the company. This role will initially start as a 4 day per week opportunity, tapering down as the Management Accountant is developed and you can empower them.

  • Provide strategic financial leadership
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to the MD and leadership team.
  • Mentor and coach the Management Accountant, building confidence and capability for future progression.
  • Manage day‑to‑day financial operations and oversee support management of the team, including annual reviews, training needs, and setting objectives.
  • Oversee monthly management accounts and variance commentaries for discussion with the MD and SLT.
  • Ensure compliance with group financial policies and maintain consistency across reporting.
  • Manage factoring accounts and stock of raw materials and finished goods, making necessary provisions and adjustments.
  • Track financial and production KPIs, analyse deviations, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Oversee year‑end audit, statutory accounts review, and corporation tax review.
  • Suggest appropriate improvement projects.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate should have:

  • A professional qualification in accounting or finance (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Proven experience in financial leadership within the industrial or manufacturing sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of product costing, overheads, and stock management.
  • Excellent skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Ability to provide strategic insights and make data‑driven decisions.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to mentor and develop the team.

This role is being marketed on the basis of an initial 4 day per week, with this then reducing as you develop the Management Accountant. The role will be offered on an initial 12 month fixed term contract basis, with a review at this stage and possible extension of a further 6 months.

  • Competitive salary ranging from £80,000 to £90,000 on a Full time equivalent basis.
  • Initial 12 month contract which may be extended, or days reduced, depending on the progress made with mentoring the Management Accountant to assume the duties.
