An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Construction Lawyer to join a leading national housebuilder in a strategic in-house position. Based from any regional office including York, Newcastle or Wakefield, this role offers the chance to advise on high value construction matters while helping shape the future direction of a progressive legal function.

Description: The In-House Construction Solicitor will be:

  • Managing a broad range of construction related legal matters across the business
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and associated documentation
  • Advising on contentious construction issues including terminations, pay less notices and adjudications
  • Maintaining and updating the company's suite of construction documents and guidance materials
  • Delivering training programmes to commercial and technical stakeholders
  • Providing commercial and strategic legal advice to senior leadership and board level stakeholders
  • Managing and instructing external legal advisers where required
  • Supporting the ongoing development and future strategy of the Group Legal and Compliance function
  • Collaborating with senior legal colleagues on complex and business critical projects
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to stakeholders across multiple business functions

Profile: The Senior Construction Lawyer should be:

  • A solicitor or equivalent with at least 8 years PQE
  • Experienced in construction law gained within a recognised private practice or in-house
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives
  • Comfortable advising on both non contentious and contentious construction matters
  • A confident communicator capable of influencing senior stakeholders
  • Experienced in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex construction agreements
  • Able to deliver engaging legal training to non legal audiences
  • Highly organised with strong drafting and project management skills
  • Capable of working autonomously whilst also contributing effectively within a team
  • Able to manage competing priorities and perform well under pressure
