We're seeking a Locum Litigation Solicitor to join a legal services team on an initial 4 to 6 month basis. This hybrid role offers £60 to £65 per hour inside IR35, working 3 days per week, with an ASAP start.

The client is a well established local authority legal team delivering high quality public services across a busy and varied community setting. You will join a supportive public sector environment with a strong focus on collaboration, flexible working, service improvement and providing practical, solution focused legal advice.

The Locum Litigation Solicitor will be:

  • Advising officers and elected members on contentious and regulatory matters
  • Handling civil and criminal litigation across a broad local government caseload
  • Advising on planning, licensing, environmental health and housing matters
  • Representing the council at court, tribunals, inquiries and committees
  • Drafting complex legal documents, reports and legal implications
  • Supporting decision making, governance, risk and constitutional matters
  • Providing legal and procedural advice at meetings and committees
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and case law
  • Supporting the wider legal services team as required

The Locum Litigation Solicitor should be:

  • A solicitor, barrister, or CILEX Fellow with UK practising rights
  • Experienced in complex litigation and regulatory legal work
  • Confident undertaking advocacy in courts, tribunals and hearings
  • Knowledgeable in local government law and regulatory services
  • Able to advise elected members, officers and senior stakeholders
  • Skilled in prioritising work within a small, busy legal team
  • Solution focused, commercially aware and confident under pressure
  • Ideally experienced within a local authority or wider public sector setting
  • Desirable: knowledge of data protection and freedom of information law
