The Head of Legal Operations will lead and optimise legal processes within this high profile national institution. They will ensure efficiency and compliance with newly created frameworks and processes. A key member of the legal, ethics & compliance leadership team, the Head of Legal Operations is a newly created role. The individual has the unique opportunity to lead from the outset, the transformation of the department's ways of working and to ensure consistently high levels of business satisfaction in the department's delivery of its services.
Assisted by a legal & compliance operations manager, the Head of Legal Operations will:
- drive the design, build and implementation of an operational framework intended to streamline and standardise ways of working within the legal, ethics & compliance team
- ensure efficient processes, legal, governance & regulatory alignment
- ensure effective support is consistently delivered to the business across all levels.
As a newly created role, the individual will be responsible for:
- building operational capability from the ground up
- driving digital transformation
- AI adoption and working with the head of department and wider leadership team to embed a culture of inclusion, collaboration and continuous improvement.
The successful Head of Legal Operations should have:
- Extensive experience in legal, governance and compliance operations, ideally having held the same or a comparable role previously in-house or a private practice law firm.
- Strong working knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management, legal and regulatory obligations, with a proven ability to apply these in the context of delivering legal, governance and compliance operational excellence.
- Demonstrable track record of independently initiating and delivering operational improvements, working cross-functionally across legal, governance, compliance and business teams.
- Analytical and data-literate, using insights to inform decisions and measure impact.
- Experience of developing operational assets including process flows, a departmental playbook/handbook, SLAs, KPIs and reporting dashboards to support transparency, performance tracking and continuous improvement.
- Background in overseeing the management of departmental finances, collaborating with the wider departmental leadership team to ensure accurate and effective budgeting, forecasting and spend oversight.
