This is an opportunity for a junior costs professional to support fee earners across a disputes practice with all aspects of legal costs, including drafting, budgeting, negotiation and assessments. The role offers hands-on exposure to high-quality work while developing strong technical expertise under experienced supervision.
Our client is a well-established law firm with a strong disputes practice, known for delivering high-quality work for a diverse client base. The firm places a strong emphasis on collaboration, wellbeing and building long-term professional relationships.
The successful candidate will support the costs team by assisting with the preparation of bills of costs, including detailed assessments, and helping with Points of Dispute, Replies, schedules of costs and general costs advice. You will also assist with costs budgeting and monitoring, assess costs risk throughout litigation, review retainers and funding arrangements, and liaise with fee earners across different departments. The role includes legal research, supporting negotiations and settlements on costs, managing deadlines, and contributing to the ongoing development of costs knowledge within the firm.
You will have prior costs experience, ideally gained within a law firm, government body or costs consultancy, and a genuine ambition to develop as a costs professional. Strong communication skills, excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure are essential, along with a proactive and collaborative approach. A willingness to undertake, or continue with, the Costs Lawyer qualification is highly desirable.
