About Our Client: Michael Page is partnering with a large International FMCG business that has recognised household brands. We are working with them to recruit for a Commercial Accountant to be based from their Uxbridge, Middlesex office.

Job Description: As the Commercial Accountant based from their Uxbridge, Middlesex office you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the head of Commercial Finance and Finance leads in providing a comprehensive, proactive, and responsive financial service to the UK & Ireland Commercial Team(s).
  • Driving focus on revenue growth and margin improvement initiatives with the Commercial Team by identifying opportunities, challenging the status quo, and through insightful analysis of both market and business information.
  • Implementing strong decision-support processes, facilitating projects, and building strong relationships with all key stakeholders.
  • Maintaining Customer Cost and Value Models.
  • Taking a role in maintaining robust externally facing Customer Cost Models to help support commercial opportunities and minimise cost inflation pricing risks.
  • Ensuring a strong understanding of market values and principles, understanding the cost drivers of inter-company meat supply to promote opportunities that maximise profit.
  • Providing key analysis in the forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Providing an independent review service to support the Commercial teams and ensure robust processes, a culture of rigorous financial control, and promoting commercial awareness.
  • Reviewing commercial plans with a forensic approach and promoting clarity and understanding.
  • Collaboratively interpreting the requirements of internal customers and implementing solutions while assisting in the definition of standard sales reporting.
  • Enabling the Commercial teams to excel as they drive revenue growth and margin improvement, including opportunities made available from customer tenders.
  • Identifying opportunities for margin enhancement through insightful analysis and promoting understanding of volumes, revenues, product cost, and overhead drivers.
  • Assisting the sales forecasting and budgeting processes, developing routines that encourage commercial participation to ensure a representative budget with appropriate narrative, sensitivity analysis, and strategic opportunities.
  • Reviewing internal Customer Trading Agreements, over-riders, and promotional costs. Evaluating promotional plans and monitoring actual performance to recommend future activities.
  • Actively leading reviews of low margin and loss-making products.
  • Assisting with the review of Commercial overheads and ensuring the budgeted target is met by identifying opportunities to save with the Commercial teams.
  • Keeping abreast of developing situations and techniques in respect of customers, competitors, suppliers, and finance disciplines and accounting standards.
  • Carrying out such ad hoc activities that management may require from time to time.
  • Conducting commercial margin analysis (Volume/Price/Mix analysis).
  • Managing SOX approvals and pricing approvals.

The Successful Applicant:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
  • Ideally experience in a similar role; FMCG / product-based industry experience is desirable.
  • Experience dealing with senior level colleagues, debating with confidence and diplomacy.
  • Strong financial modelling skills, including use of pivot tables and manipulation of significant data sets, producing high-quality reporting.
  • Excellent communicator, bringing numbers alive through simple tables and presentations with clarity and consistency.
