Overview
In this role you will architect and build ultra-scale distributed systems for a technology-led financial services firm, owning end-to-end architecture and reliability in a lean environment. You will design event-driven architectures, partitioning strategies, and highly scalable data platforms with a focus on reliability and fault tolerance. You will lead performance optimisation across application, infra, storage, networking and caching layers, and evaluate emerging technologies including AI-driven capabilities. This is a chance to work on mission-critical platforms at scale and to shape core platform engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Architect and build large-scale distributed systems supporting millions of users and high request-throughput
- Design event-driven architectures and scalable data platforms with reliability and fault tolerance
- Lead performance optimisation across app, infra, storage, networking and caching layers
- Own systems end-to-end from architecture to production operations and continuous improvement
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-driven capabilities, to solve engineering challenges
Key requirements
- Extensive backend engineering experience with highly scalable distributed systems in production
- Proven experience operating services handling 20,000-30,000+ requests per second and large-scale traffic
- Deep expertise in system design, distributed architecture, concurrency, partitioning and performance engineering
- Track record of solving scaling, latency, reliability, and availability challenges in mission-critical platforms
- Strong technical curiosity and ability to learn new technologies, domains, and AI capabilities independently
