Overview
In this Buyer role, you own purchasing activities for materials, goods and services within a busy manufacturing setting. You will manage a supplier portfolio to meet business needs and support continuous improvement. You’ll work with internal teams to ensure on-time delivery, drive commercial improvements, and assist with supplier onboarding and NPI-related supply chain needs. This is a hands-on, cross-functional opportunity in a technically complex environment with a strong focus on quality and growth.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of suppliers and raise purchase orders based on MRP requirements
- Ensure on-time delivery and expedite orders as needed
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Support competitive tenders, sourcing activities and commercial improvement projects
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks with the broader team
- Assist with new supplier onboarding and supplier transitions
- Resolve supplier issues related to delivery, pricing and terms
- Support New Product Introduction and related supply chain needs
- Monitor and report supplier performance, KPIs and purchasing data
- Identify opportunities for process and continuous improvement across purchasing activities
Key requirements
- Experience in buying, purchasing or supply chain roles
- Strong experience using MRP/ERP systems in a purchasing context
- Experience managing suppliers and building commercial relationships
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and purchasing data handling
- Proactive, commercially minded with solid problem-solving abilities
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering or production is advantageous
- CIPS membership/qualification or equivalent experience beneficial
