We are seeking an experienced Interim Health & Safety Manager to oversee and implement health and safety protocols within the engineering and manufacturing sector. This temporary position is based in Luton and requires a focused professional with a strong understanding of industrial and manufacturing safety standards.

The employer is a medium-sized organisation operating within the industrial and manufacturing industry. They are committed to maintaining high standards of safety and compliance across their operations while promoting excellence in their field.

Whilst primarily a Health & Safety role, this position also has broader responsibilities including Quality Assurance and Facilities Management, so would suit candidates with wider operational exposure.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the group health & safety policy, reporting and procedures including Health and Safety initiatives to improve group culture and maintain ISO45001 accreditation.
  • Conduct regular health & safety risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate risks.
  • Develop safe working practices to support the business.
  • Maintain and manage emergency procedures including PPE requirements & COSHH, develop & maintain first aid policy, procedure and equipment.
  • Lead, report and deliver monthly reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and develop current certification ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 using the systems to drive continual development and improvement throughout the business.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Work with the group ISO consultants to conduct internal audits, coordinate external audits, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop a Group Environmental & Sustainability business strategy.
  • Identify, create, and manage group sustainability initiatives and targets across all group sites including quarterly reporting.
  • Set annual improvement targets for the group and at site level taking into consideration on site and supply chain impact.
  • Review and management of the group environmental procedures to maintain ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Provide a strategic approach to group accreditations such as RISQs, Safe Supplier, Ecovadis etc.
  • Manage annual membership and collaborate with the business to deliver value.
  • Working with department leads to ensure the group and their supply chain meet social governance, sustainability and ethical goals.
  • Upholding quality assurance standards across the group.
  • Management and delivery of customer compliance and quality assurance documentation.
  • Working with the HR Manager to develop employee compliance training and understanding of QHSE policies across the group.
  • Working with the technical resources in the business, lead the resolution of quality issues, or product failures for the Group.
  • Coordinate Route Cause Analysis investigations & customer communication.
  • Report to the business on a monthly basis any ongoing cases or concerns.
  • Single management system for all sites ensuring there is a single reference record of testing requirements and service records.

Profile

The successful Interim Health & Safety Manager should have:

  • Ability to manage compliance and regulatory requirements effectively.
  • IOSH and/or NEBOSH qualification in Health & Safety management.
  • Experienced working within operations and compliance at a management level.
  • High level of organisation with the ability to manage and deliver projects & tasks from start to end.
  • Experienced with management system development and audit delivery.
  • Ability to drive and deliver improvement through team collaboration.
  • Good communication skills in order to keep all stakeholders informed of progress.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Analytical and decision-making skills.
