The Group Financial Controller will oversee the company's financial operations, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and strategic financial planning to support long-term sustainability. Reporting to the Group Finance Director, the role includes managing financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, audits, and leading the finance team.

The client is a well-established, family-run company, operating as a major importer and distributor of power equipment in the UK. They serve both business and consumer markets through multiple channels, including e-commerce platforms, and have a strong presence with headquarters and additional facilities across the country. The company is focused on sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and maintaining a dynamic, supportive work environment.

Description

Here are the key responsibilities for the Group Financial Controller role:

  • Oversee all company accounts, including accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform full balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage quarterly VAT returns for the UK and overseas.
  • Oversee payroll processing for over 110 employees
  • Prepare weekly finance packs and monthly management accounts
  • Assist with budgeting, monitor financial performance, and provide variance analysis.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow to support financial stability and operations.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
  • Lead and mentor the finance and admin team, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial systems and processes.
  • Collaborate on the development of financial systems aligned with growth goals.
  • Working very closely with the Group Financial Director

Profile

The Successful candidate will have:

  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with substantial relevant experience.
  • Highly knowledgeable in UK accounting standards, VAT, payroll, and tax regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions like pivot tables and data analysis tools.
  • Experienced with accounting and ERP systems such as Sage, SAP, or similar platforms.
  • Skilled in leading finance teams, with a proven track record in a senior finance role within a medium to large business.
  • Adaptable and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with strong analytical and leadership abilities.
