Job Description

As the Interim Head of Risk you will be contributing to strategic activities across business continuity, risk management and major incident. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will influence institutional practices and support decision-making at the highest levels.

Client Details

This role is with a highly regarded Higher Education institution based in Bristol. Working flexibly with 3 days per week in the office and 2 from home.

Description

  • A review of the Strategic Business Impact Analysis (SBIA) priorities for the University with the Vice-Chancellor's Executive and Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee.
  • A review of the status of current business continuity plans in line with the SBIA.
  • Development of a programme of work and timeline, working with the Directors of Professional Services and College Managers, for agreed plans to be in place and an ongoing maintenance/testing schedule. This includes delivery of a focused piece of work to ensure preparedness across the University for significant disruption to IT.
  • Scrutiny of proposed plans and provision of assurance on the status of these to the Vice-Chancellor's Executive and Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee.
  • Acting as the key liaison for colleagues across the University for risk management and business continuity planning.
  • Review and update of the University's Major Incident Plan documentation and approach to exercise, working closely with key internal and external partners.
  • Support the establishment of the University's Risk Management Steering Group and current oversight and reporting requirements with regards to risk management.

Profile

A successful Interim Head of Risk should have:

  • A strong understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Senior-level experience of enterprise risk management, business continuity and the management of major incidents.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across academic and professional service teams.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and navigating complex institutional structures.
